Forbidden lane

Lanes are reserved for various types of vehicle.Emergency lanes on motorways may be used only in emergencies.

Seat belts

The use of seat belts and child restraint systems is MANDATORY (Directive 91/671/EEC as amended).

Exemptions for:

  • taxi drivers
  • drivers of postal delivery vehicles
  • drivers of catering vehicles
  • pregnant women

Influence of drugs

The Greek road traffic code prohibits driving under the influence of drugs. The drugs are not specified.

Alcohol limits

0,2 mg/ml for motorbike and moped drivers, novice and professional drivers

Traffic lights

Red traffic light

You must stop in front of the stop line. If there is no stop line, you must stop early enough to make sure you can clearly see the lights, and not move until the lights turn green. If the traffic light is placed in the middle or on the opposite side of the junction you may not enter the junction and you may not stand on pedestrian crossings.

Yellow traffic light

You must stop, just like at a red light, unless you are so close to the traffic light that you cannot stop safely anymore.

Double or single flashing yellow traffic light

You must slow down, proceed with particular care and give priority to pedestrians and vehicles.

Mobile telephone
