Kritsa village is one of the most visited villages of Eastern Crete. It is a village with great history and great traditional and folklore history. The village has been built east of Agios Nikolaos on the mountain of Kastelos, with a fantastic sightseeing view of Mirabello gulf and the great olive trees plateau, close by the “Kato Mirabello”area.
Kritsa village is the first big village from which most local people come from the area of Mirabello. Agios Nikolaos city is 9km far and village of Krousta is just 6km far. It is known the city of Agios Nikolaos has been built from these people. Historically it is the oldest village of Mirabello and one of the oldest of Crete. It’s architecture is famous and it’s buildings are some of the most beautiful of the whole eastern Crete traditional buildings.
How to go there
Kritsa is just 9 km far from Agios Nikolaos city, easy to access with bus or car or even a taxi. The road is easy and the signs written in Latin easy to read.
By car
The airport of Heraklion is a start point easy to drive east. The road is straight and the direction easy and safe. You will have to arrive to Agios Nikolaos and then turn right direction to Ierapetra, the road signs show the village of Kritsa to be 9 km away far. You can hire a car and drive there.
By taxi
You can hire a taxi and drive to the village of Kritsa. The important is you understand the importance of the village over the years and visit all exhibition rooms of the traditional local organization.
By bus
There is a bus station in the city of Agios Nikolaos, just close by the hospital. There is a bus driving to Kritsa village very often. Many visitors choose to visit this place using the public bus. The village’s bus station is in the center.

There are many houses that host people in the village of Kritsa, most of them as bnb properties. The area is very beautiful and is possible to spend some days staying there. The tourist resorts are very close to the village, as we wrote the Mirabello gulf is very close and the village is the capital of the area.
The village is very close with Amoudara village, the closest seaside place to the Kritsa, an area with many hotels and organized businesses, well developed and new built accommodation. There are spectacular hotels, like Daios Gove in Vathi !
